A test of culture and nationality: Japan

052508: Monday
Woke up at 4 am to catch the 7 am flight to Narita Airport in Tokyo.
1st class baybeh! And the best part: we didn't pay extra! All thanks to ate's client :)
Arrived at around 1 pm.
Took the Airport limousine bus for 2 hours, then hello Hiro-o.
Waited for my cousin-in-law to pick us up at the Grand Hyatt Hotel.
Had dinner at this american army exclusive hotel. Shet. The food was effing good! Sushi, Beef tenderloin, sticky rice, mushrooms, and dessert! Strawberry tart and strawberry cheesecake! :3

Tuesday:
Asakusa
Senso-ji temple
Amazing!

You just gotta love the Japanese for making scrumptious sweets :) I know I do.
Lotsa lotsa temples. For us, we only pay attention to the structure . Its designs, intricacies, age, etc. But for them, it's religious.
I bet you're gonna hate me for this, but how come countries like Japan and China have really rich cultures? Their history is incredible and their infrastructures and art are just so amazing. ( *cough*now look at the nipa hut over there*cough*)
I love how the Japanese put every detail into thought.
Omekuji.
You shake a can full of sticks then pick one. Each stick has a unique writing on it, which is supposed to identify your "luck".
I got this. Apparently, I have medium luck daw.
If you get "bad luck", you're supposed to tie the piece of paper to the clothesline-like thing so that the wind would take it away.
Next stop that day: Ueno park.
To-eizan Kan-eiji Temple.
It's actually usually the place to watch cherry blossoms during April but since we went there during May, there weren't any sakura left :(

I still loved the scenery though. It's the place to be when you just want unwind and watch people during a boring summer day. They also harvest lotus flowers in the pond so just staring at the water's pretty relaxing. If you get bored, you can always dream off while staring at the dazzling blue sky.
While I was taking pictures of the scenery and stuff, a Japanese actually approached me and mistook me for a Japanese girl! I guess he was just trying to strike a conversation with me about cameras or something coz I only understood one word in his sentence. "Shashin" which means picture. I just told him (in Japanese, mind you) that I wasn't Japanese. He then asked me if I was Chinese! Wenk. Haha . Of course I told him I was from the Philippines then excused myself . But at least I was able to converse with him in Japanese, even just a little! :PWed:
It's Harajuku time! I love it how everyone looks surreal. As if they just popped out of a manga page, a magazine, or even a rock concert. Just check out my mult.Next stop: Meiji shrine
For 1 whole week, we walked ourselves to death! We would go to 3-4 diff places in one day! The train system I showed you before may seem complicated, but once you get the hang of it, it's really really convenient! You just transfer stations and you could really go to faraway places! You can go around the whole of Japan without taking a plane! That's one reason pollution is very low in Japan. And there's no traffic and all that beeping!

Thurs: Tobu-Nikko! It was a 2-hr long train ride to the rural part of Japan.
We almost rode the wrong carriage! We were supposed to ride Car 1 & 2 only but we got on the last car :)) If we didn't ask, our carriage would have separated from the main train after a few stops! Haha.

Kailan kaya magkakaroon ang Pilipinas ng matinong train system?
Exhausted!

Poor anorexic building :P

I like the scenery going to Tobu-Nikko. It was a bit hard though since the train was moving. Doi :P

See, Hear, say no evil. This is where it all started.

After going back to Asakusa(2 hrs away) to transfer trains, we headed for Tsukiji! It's the ultimate sushi place! The whole place is like a fish market so the fish are really fresh and yummy!

Friday: Kita-Kamakura! (via Hibiya line then Tokyo line)
It's Big BUDDHA! I finally saw it in person!

Saturday: Harajuku again. I went gaga over the 100 yen store! It's unusual kasi to find something cheap in Japan so I ADORE that store! I bought all kinds of food erasers. (swear, they're really detailed and cute) Lobster, sushi, tempura, and cup noodles (you can even take the lid off and take the noodles out) anyone?! I also shopped for some clothes in Harajuku and Dad thought I got lost because I was gone for 2 hours! Haha.

Next stop: Shinjuku Toko Gov't Tower. You can see the whole of Tokyo there!

Gotta love 'em miniatures.

Next stop: Roponggi!
The REALLY high end of Tokyo. Their train station looks like a hotel!

Finally home. Meet Nicole everyone. She wakes me up every single day. At 7, mind you. It's thanks to her that my body clock became normal again. :P

Now meet Alex.

Sunday: Venus Mall. Their 2nd floor looks like Rome.

Across the mall is the Toyota showroom! Driving simulator baybeh!

What really intrigues me is their toilets. The toilet seats are heated and there options on the side. Would you like a sprinkle, bidet, or a massage with that mademoiselle? There's even a music option! You can even adjust the volume!(when you;re making poop)

You gotta give the Japanese credit for thinking about almost everything. They have an eye for detail and aren't afraid to show their really wild side (Harajuku). I've already divided em into categories. The first category is the Corporate cluster. When you get on a train or anyhwere else, men aged in their early twenties to near retirees are dressed in suits! Very polished and crisp, mind you. Very professional-looking and CEO-worthy. It makes you hard to distinguish the top grossers from the ones who are still starting out.

The second category: the ladies. I didn't see much ladies dressed in stiff black corporate suits though. They're all wearing fashionable, sophisticated, and professional-looking clothes. They all sport signature bags like Gucci, LV, Chanel, etc. to the point that you can't distinguish anymore who's richer or whatever. Their hair is always made up and they always look picture-perfect. It's as if they just stepped out from a magazine.

The third category: the rockstars. Teenage guys sport this look. Very metrosexual and cool. The hair all waxed up, with the graffiti/funky shirt/ jacket and skinny jeans.

The other category I made is the ordinary trendy girls. They love layering and there's just so much going on in their outfit you pay less attention to the details. Usually, the kinds of clothes they're wearing are considered high fashion here but there it's just normal street wear. Everyone just looks so fashion savvy, you get too distracted to the point that you don't care anymore.

The other category: the students. I just looove loove their uniforms. Ever wonder why their shorts (for lil boys) and skirts are so short even in winter? That's to discipline them. Their stuff are all uniformed too! Like their bags, hats, boots, umbrella, etc! It's adorable. :)

The other category is for the eccentric ones. The Otakus. It's as if they live in a different world, like they just jumped out from a manga page or a video game. They love to wear costumes and are into wild clothes and hair. Platinum blonde, heavy makeup, and huge falsies anyone? Some love dressing like a child. Like, everything they wear's pink and lacey. Their clothes have cake and candy designs to match their cake bag.

The last category is the old people. They usually wear old fashioned and classic things. Hmm..I guess that's it.

There's still a lot about Japan that I just ultimately adore. I love the way they are very respectful and considerate. Like in the train, no one's talking! Mahihiya ka tuloy magsalita. All their phones are put to silent mode in public places and you don't have to worry about being robbed, raped, etc! No one checks out your butt or gives you a sneaky smile when you pass by. And you can't really see the big difference between people. Like you barely notice the distinction between rich and poor. (Not like here where it's really evident)

The con there though is that it's as if everyone's spaced out because they won't even glance at you or whatever.

You may hate me for this but I actually compared the Philippines countless of times and even felt some disgust and shame towards my country. How I despise the rudeness of uneducated people, the spit-coated streets, the traffic, pollution, the lack of organization and order, the arrogance of the youth, the ignorance of many, the corruption of our politicians...I even wished I was born Japanese. I can get away with it anyway, a lot have already mistook me for one.

But still, whatever happens, my country will always have a special place in my heart. I guess it's just like a maternal thing. But I can't say that would be still the case if I wasn't born here. Still, there are a lot of things to be proud of.

So there.

Sayoonara.

tanoshi desu ne!

Archie didn't win Idol, but that's okay darling! He has a car and I bet he'll be signing for a really big record company later (if he hasn't yet, that is). And oh, I took a video of the whole AI finals. HAHA. It's kinda snowy though.

I'm pretty much like a bum today. It's officially my first day of vacation after summer classes so WOOOOT! Haha, as you all know, Anime's like my comfort "food" especially when my vacation starts! WAAA! I'm currently watching Ichigo 100% (100% Strawberries) :D

Kk. More R & R for me! I have to enjoy it while I still can you know! I bet I'll be a zombie again after about a few weeks after school starts again!

gorgeous!

I have a I have a new boyfriend, btw. His name is David Archuleta just in case you haven't heard. HAHA. I think I'm getting addicted already. Too addicted that it's pathetic already. :)) I'm currently watching the encore and I just can't stop staring! AHAHA. I can just melt. :P Since apparently, awhile ago, my ii2 barkada was here and they just kept on talking the entire show! (WOOO SALAMAT SA PAG-INGAY) #$%@#@ :)) Oh well, at least I was able to watch David A again. <3>

And oh, I'm kinda praning right now. It's because of David's weight! Arrgh! I do hope they just invented his weight coz that would mean I'm heavier than he is. :o I've just been so used to being called skinny and lampayatot that's all. But a lot of people still get shocked when they learn about my weight. I guess it just doesn't look like it? I might just have HEAVY bones that's all. :)) But yeah, not to sound too egoisitic, so maybe I am not exactly as thin as before. But helloooo he's a guy and he's taller than I am! He should at least weight 20 pounds heavier!
Haha. For the 1st time ever, I might go on a diet! WAHAHA.
Nah.
Seriously... =))

Keng just gave me the wake up call that just punched me:
Keng: Hindi naman kayo magsasama e.
Ouch. Okay. Sige tough love na.
Kk. I'm a bit drowsy already! Goodnight!

I'm rooting for david

I am actually supposed to be studying right now but obviously I'm not! :)) I think I'm already getting addicted to facebook already...just when I thought I got tired signing up with one of those friendster-myspace-chuva social websites. It's fun, really! :)

And the other reason for my procastination is ---- American Idol Marathon! Doi! Seriously, I had to really drag myself up the stairs to force myself to study! SHIT naman kasi. If only I didn't see it was on Star Movies! Rar. Now it's the only thing I think about. So we all know now what's reason if I fail Eco and Histo. Now, if only my body permitted me to actually watch the whole AI marathon without the need to eat and sleep! HAHA. Thank goodness I was able to watch David Cook sing You'll Always Be My Baby again. :) AHHHH lovely lovely! < 3 And yes, Miranda, I also loooove Danny Noriega! I also don't care if he's gay! OMG I so want to live with him! HAHA it'll be so much fun and "HOOOT!" just the way you say it Danny. :P I seriously don't know why Malubay got eliminated. I think she was one of the best amongst the girls. I'm surprised how Kristy Cook even lasted longer than her. I have a crush on Kristy, btw. But let's face it. Malubay can sing better that her.

Ohhhh and I love seeing and hearing David Archuleta sing againnnn! I am so infatuated right now. Haha. Well, he's cute, what d'ya expect?! Seeing him is kinda refreshing actually, I thought almost all teenagers in the US were all pa-angas who had curse fits to match their pierced body parts. I like the way he snickers and giggles when he gets complimented, he's just like a little boy who has no idea that he's soooo cute! WAHAHA. You know I have this thing for totoy slash mama's boys. :) I just loooove the innocence. Here I go again. He smiles all the time, I just want to pinch his cheeks! :P And oh, that voice. WTH, where have you been hiding all this time? It's like it was obvious from the start that he and Cook would reach the finals. And oh, I love his eyelashes. OKAAAY that's enough already. HAHA.

I just wanted to punch when my prof last week when he said that Archuleta was only fit for Disney and Nickelodeon. He even said that it would be so tasteless if he would win.

First of all, I do agree that his FACE fits those kinds of companies. Disney, Nickelodeon, HSM, etc. He has this wholesome image too. He seems the perfect addition to one of those "corny-esque" pre-teen Disney movies because he looks the part. It's also a plus that he can really sing.

BUT

It doesn't mean that he doesn't deserve to win Idol. If you regard his win as "tasteless", then you are only judging him by his age, and not his singing capabilities. In my opinion kasi, the stars in Disney Channel (Hudgens, Efron, Cyrus, Tisdale, etc.) don't really give singing its whole worth. I'm sorry Zac. You're hot and all, but you're not really much of a great singer. :) And Hudgens? I don't like her singing at all. It's like listening to a chipmunk.

Just like Sandra said, I'm not worried if David A does win Idol or not. We all know he has a career already. I just hate hearing people say that he's only worth those preteen musicals! *^@&%#*& HAHAHA.

It isn't tasteless if you heard him sing, ya know! (Okay, am I too bitter already?) Haha.

I love David Cook and all, but there's really something about him that bothers me. He's just oh so comfortable! It's like, he's a professional already, that he has no worries of being eliminated. I appreciate the confidence and all, but it just seems he wasn't fit for Idol. WHY ISN'T HE RECORDING AN ALBUM RIGHT NOW ALREADY?! And there are just some performances I feel that he gets bored already? Like when he sang Dare You to Move. But then again, that's just me.

I'm excited as hell for wednesday! One thing's for sure, I'm rooting for DAVID! :)

This is spartaaaaaaaaa

There's so much to do, I just don't want to do it anymore. :(

Our shoot for the 300 inspired commercial for Histo didn't push through a while ago because of the stupid rain and I had to carry all those props with me!

3 super shiny shields (I used hoola hoops as bases! Haha! It's soo big :)) ) , 3 spears ( Painted it bronze with hints of black, finally returned to Dapitan woot!), 2 swords, my Spartan costume, and a very heavy tripod! WTH. We moved it to tomorrow and I just hope that it won't rain anymore :( We're going to shoot most of the scenes in the Rock Garden (In the Ateneo GS) so it'll be really dangerous if it rained and the "cliffs" would all be so slippery..

I also got bit by a striped mosquito last week. Courtesy of the creatures there in the GS Rock Garden. So you all know who to blame when I die. Haha.

Hay. I hate editing videos. It's so time consuming and I get confused and dizzy after working for 3 hours straight. It also gets frustrating when the Movie Maker would hang and then you'd have to restart it, and then you'd have to redo most of the stuff.

Oh yeah, I'll be out of town on my birthday! Wii! HAHA. I just found out the other day. I think Ate and her "group" (or whatever they call it) in Citibank won the trip to Bora as a prize or something. So she asked if I could go, and yay I'll go HAHA. Please naman kasi. I think it's been already 5 years since I last set foot in that island. It's a whole different island na siguro right now. All those clubs, celebs, and not to mention drugs. HAHA. I'll be fine. Especially that I'll be turning 18 while we're there. BWAHAHA. I can finally flash my Ateneo ID with confidence (my bday is there).

Zephyr will be arriving soon too :) (a Nikon D40, fyi :) ) Just 2 more weeks!

I'm just really "stretched out" right now, I just want to think about the nice things. Just 2 more weeks of school then it's partaaay time! Then there's Japan. Then there's my bday at Dolce. Then there's Bora. Then there's my real bday. Then there's my 1st day of school again :/ Helllooooo Calculus, Stat, and Accounting! Woot!

But before all that, there's Histo finals (HELL! Did I mention that I actually passed my midterms? :P AHAHA. I wasn't expecting kasi. The items are 2 pts each so it takes a huge part of the score whenever I get something wrong. And the spellings are really tough, RAR. HAY BUT I STILL PASSED. Sabit nga lang. Did I mention that our prof's D is a 70?! In Math D is a 50 but in other subjects it's usually a 60. BUT WTH for him, it's a 70! :(( I got a 72. Waa I can't have a D on my transcript. BAD BAD BAD. What's bad is that we only have the midterms, finals, and the project to "make our grade". Waa wish me luck!)

There's also the eco presentation and the freaking 35 single spaced report. But I think right now, I'm a bit relaxed already. We're working on it! AJAAAA!

Then there's the Histo project. We are to pick a popular person in Western History and make a commercial out of him/her by advertising a certain product that applies to his/her life.

We decided on the Battle of Thermopylae. Spartans vs Persians. TM vs Brand X Sim
A Persian is wounded, falls to the ground.
Before he dies, he sends a text msg for help.
Another Persian appears.

A Spartan is wounded, falls to the ground.
Before he dies, he sends a text msg for help.
Message failed.

The Persians continue to text TTEXT TITEXT TEXT!!!

The Spartans lose.

Haha. I tried watching some 300 clips in youtube and most of them are hilarious! This is Spartaaaaaaaaaa Techno Remix anyone?! Haha.

Kk, better get down to work.

Ja.

Where did it go?

It's something we aren't really born with. It doesn't come with the package of the squealing baby and umbilical cord cutting image.

It's not something you actually think of or force into yourself either.

Some are lucky enough to experience it a young age and some just don't get its essence.

It's something that just hits you. No timers. No warnings. No prompts.

Some get hit by it everyday. Some get it sometimes. And some even don't.

It's the thing that doesn't let you rest until you've tired all your creative juices out or bled your efforts on doing your craft.

It's the thing that lets you smile at night before you go to sleep; the thing that assures you that you are indeed someone in this world.

It's something exhilarating and breathtaking at the same time. It's the good kind of drug that just keeps you up and at 'em.

It

is

inspiration.

For the past few weeks, I haven't felt any urge to write, draw, or even dream at a whim. My mind has just been filled up with school stuff (but I don't think I'm doing very good academically either). Most of the time, I think my mind's just blank. As in nada. I don't think if that's even humanly possible but I don't know... It's just been a while since I had one of those inspirational jolts that left me up and doing stuff like an energizer bunny.

I don't know if you've ever experienced this or maybe it's just me but have you ever gotten those Artsy fartsy thoughts before you fall asleep? You know, you're really really sleepy, and when you're about to fall asleep, artsy fartsy images would just flash through your mind? The things you see, it's like you've never seen them before but it greets you with this sense of familiarity. It's not deja vu. It's just something there. It's just weird because it's as if I've tried freezing those images into my brain and then I could "magnify" the details of the image. Like, I can pinpoint all the intricate designs and identify all the colors. It's like staring into a pretty picture. You get to stare it for a long time without thinking. Have you ever experienced one of those?

It's just weird because during the day, I have a hard time thinking of those kind of images. Like, super wild, psychedelic, and intricate images. When I try hard to think about having to draw something or some sort, my mind just doesn't work that well. Yet when I am about to fall asleep, all these images I've never seen in my life just pop out like corn in a kettle. I know I'm still awake and that I'm not dreaming, but how come I can't think of those while I'm really wide awake?

Hmm. And here comes the problem. Lately, I haven't been getting those kind of experiences anymore. :( I used to get it almost everyday. And I don't get AHA! moments anymore like before. I'm not depressed or anything, I just feel empty. And I can't even pinpoint what's the culprit behind all this.

Oh well, I'll be hitting the sack in a while. It's been a long night. I've been trying to write a part of the 35-page report for eco when I just couldn't stand the sight of graphs and the words stocks and percentages. And oh yeah, our very porcupine-looking teacher just told us a awhile ago that the 35 page report was to be single-spaced. Oh great. Now, I feel a lot better. Maybe I should just dunk my head into the planggana (is this how you spell it?) and just forget to breathe after 3 minutes. I need refreshment. I think I'm beginning to be a zombie already.
